Site-Wide Activity

How would you relate this observation to your own life? How about the life of a character in a favorite film? In one of your own stories?

  • Steven Barnes replied to the topic in the forum Site-Wide Activity 7 years, 3 months ago

Yes, you can change and refine your Sankalpa (the spelling varies) as you go. In fact, since you’re always going, you have no other choice!

  • Steven Barnes replied to the topic in the forum Site-Wide Activity 7 years, 3 months ago

Yes, Daniel. You should experiment, and use ANYTHING that works better for you than my suggestions! IF you stop getting the desired result, default back to Heartbeat Meditation, and try something else. It is imperative that you find your own way.

    Hi Sara Gabriella and all,

I’d love to read some of your poetry, poetic lines, etc. I am a published poet who also writes prose.

In addition, I’d like to share that Split This Rock, a social justice poetry non-profit organization based in Washington D.C. has a virtual open mic on its blog through January 31st. They plan to deliver the poems to…[Read more]

It did work, and I thank you very much!

Meditation, I think. Moving meditation, perhaps. It has to incorporate reminding me what my purpose is, so perhaps the Salute to the Sun yoga asana that I do as a “prayer,” for lack of a better term, incorporating my life’s purpose. A shorter version of Mr. Barnes’ morning practice, which I don’t think I can yet get myself do daily.

I’m going to toss out a sideways observation. It depends on the emotional connections that exist to support those liberal or conservative attitudes.

One’s attitudes about citizenship, equality and suffering, just to quickly pick three, are often deeply experience-based, with emotions evoked by those experiences binding those attitudes to certain…[Read more]

Ah, yes I forgot in the Sankalpa:
“I earn 2500€ a month minimum” (in the beginning).
Sorry – there are some writing mistakes in the other email.

    D.

  • Sara Gabriella replied to the topic in the forum Site-Wide Activity 7 years, 3 months ago

Thanks, Steven. That does make it manageable. Reminds me of the old saying, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time”.

I’ll focus on 3 three things as I finish my week one homework to write a story about someone who is incarcerated, has been effected in some way by incarceration or who works in the prision industry.
    I have a good idea of…[Read more]

    Thanks, Steven.
I hope it was ok to openly share my Sankalpa…

I suppose “super sex with fabulous women” comes from the comparison of the past of my girlfriend – ´cause she`s told me how fabulous that time was with all those parallel lovers.

But yes I´ve heard your answer loud and clearly.
Of course I want to be happy.
And I think me and my g…[Read more]

    Thanks Steven.
I think I will find my way out soon – even if I dont know why..

Could you explain me what this exactly means (I think is the language barrier):

You now have enough information to answer your own questions. I can still help you, but I want to watch you “plug” your questions into the answers I’ve already given you.

  • Steven Barnes replied to the topic in the forum Site-Wide Activity 7 years, 3 months ago

Good. That means you’ve been able to identify with something deeper than the damage. How did you find that deeper place?

  • Steven Barnes replied to the topic in the forum Site-Wide Activity 7 years, 3 months ago

Sure! Eventually we will have threads about poetry. I can tell you that writers like Ray Bradbury advised writing a poem a day for PROSE writers! I would “nibble aroudn the edges” of a major emotional issue (say, post-election blues) to allow your unconscious room and time to process. Do this in a journal, so you can look back over the years…[Read more]

The way not to get “stuck” is to simply focus on the work. In every session, or every story, concentrate on 1-3 aspects of your writing. No more than that. Telling the truth. Poetic expression. Characterization. Really, the fewer the better. But if you will do this, and keep moving through the “Machine” you will find your work improving…[Read more]

O.K.–good. You will want to write and re-write and refine your Sankalpa as you go, refining and clarifying.

“I´ve finally made it!!: A new, super-flat, Super Sex with fabulous women, FUN, at least 5 clients a week, Assertiveness, Social Strength and Power, and always lots of Cash available, and finally an own motorized vehicle”

I’m a published and produced Poet, but don’t really write poetry much anymore and your post makes me think I could jot down some poems in a notebook as a way of journaling.
Little snippets of poems to document, deconstruct and “chew on” the experiences of my daily life.

I’ll share one on this thread when I finish if you all are interested…

That is a good question, LaVeda.

My strength is my resilience/resourcefulness. I owe everything to my ability to face, and overcome challenges, struggle, and heartbreak. Since Growth is a painful (or at least uncomfortable) process, it’s helped me immensely to be able to endure the pain and cross over to the other side, where Growth awaits.…[Read more]
