That’s amazing. Have you completed a story? If so, are you planning on sumbitting it to a publication?

This is an enlightening conversation. Describing characters is one of the easier skilss for me, as is dialogue. What tends to allude me is structure.

I like the 5 steps to becoming a Social Justice Warrior. That struck me on the Introduction (week 1) video too. It didn’t occur to me that self-image could impact my writing, but after reflection, I…[Read more]

I will simultanously continue on the thread:

    “Write my own heroes journey”

    (Also see you there!)

I hope its okay to share a sankalpa openly – I think I´ve heard you should keep it secret ?!

  • Daniel Riewe replied to the topic in the forum Site-Wide Activity 7 years, 2 months ago

    Hi Steven.

I would love to Start now here on this thread.

My actual Sankalpa is like this (its in German, but I give my best to translate it):

“I´ve finally made it!!: A new, super-flat, Super Sex with fabulous women, FUN, at least 5 clients a week, Assertiveness, Social Strength and Power, and always lots of Cash available, and finally an own…[Read more]

    Steven Thanks.
Slowly, slowly my “knot” opens. And in all that “mindfuck” I slowly find LOVE towards that woman…

And yes I am ready to go MY path now instead of hanging around in HER past!

Here is one more question (repeated):

Can I use this technique instead of yours (yours ist “just” listening to the heartbeat for 20 min…[Read more]

Good words! And studying all those anthologies will make it clear how healthy the market really is!

  • Steven Barnes replied to the topic in the forum Site-Wide Activity 7 years, 2 months ago

This is an exercise that will pay off mightily if you are willing to go through the fear and doubt. You might want to ask your friends what THEY see your strengths as being. The belief that you have gifts to offer the world is tied in with our core self-concept, and if you have a hard time finding them, it suggests an arena that will be VERY…[Read more]

Because there are still many markets for short stories. More than I can count. Magazines, anthologies, and on-line forms. Yep, they get thousands of submissions. And the marketplace is flooded with self-published books, and book publishers get thousands of submissions as well. Others make other suggestions, but this path has worked for a…[Read more]

Great! Really let yourself feel those gratitudes. Our emotions are the result of our focus. Now…combine that “emotional flood” with movement and visions of the future in your daily “Morning Ritual” and you have discovered how to control your emotions every day!

  • Steven Barnes replied to the topic in the forum Site-Wide Activity 7 years, 2 months ago

Again, no one is telling you to stay. I’m saying that if a woman is 5’10” and you are 5’9″ and you want a woman shorter with you, the extra inch isn’t her problem. It is yours.

  • Steven Barnes replied to the topic in the forum Site-Wide Activity 7 years, 2 months ago

Daniel, if you want a woman with less experience than you, fine. But the fact that this one has more is NOT her problem–the problem is your reaction. And your emotions are 100% yours. I’ve dated women with more experience than me, and I’ve dated virgins. In no case was their experience their problem–that’s all in your head. Want a different…[Read more]

    Cool!

    Cross-linking sounds pretty useful!

Your Daily Ritual will help you keep emotional balance and perspective, so you can focus on effective solutions!

    Yes,RJ! Tell us THAT story!

[Puts chin in hands; looks at you expectantly]

  • LaVeda H. Mason replied to the topic in the forum Site-Wide Activity 7 years, 2 months ago

I will second Steve on that – it IS a strength! One that you appreciate even more if you’ve been to a Thanksgiving dinner of a person who *can’t* make a decent pie… [shudder]

    LOL

  • LaVeda H. Mason replied to the topic in the forum Site-Wide Activity 7 years, 2 months ago

And I believe I can speak for everyone here, that we are glad you have that superpower! <3

  • Daniel Riewe replied to the topic in the forum Site-Wide Activity 7 years, 2 months ago

    Ok.
But I think you are with a different kind of woman.
You´ve heard the story of mine a little – I suppose yours does not jump into bed with guys into bed after knowing them just for a few hours.
And I suppose also your wife is less experienced than you..

I still contemplate what to do.

Can I use this technique instead of yours (yours ist…[Read more]

Yep, “best of” anthologies will give you a wide breadth of what’s out there. Your “best writers” and my “best writers” list might look totally different based on our personal interests and tastes, but those anthologies will give you a good idea of whose work to start looking for.

And if you check the publication details in the back, you’ll find…[Read more]

Michael, I can’t speak to the publishing side of it, but I do know I also resisted writing short stories because I wanted to focus on novels. I finally caved because from a “teaching you the writing craft” perspective, short stories are a vastly more effective instructor.

ALL the things you have to get right in a novel you have to get right in…[Read more]

I hadn’t forgotten the question, I just have a hard time seeing my strengths. Weaknesses I can go on about all day long…
…So I’ll turn that around; a strength is my ability to see the flaw in plans, the weak spots. The places where it won’t work or might fail. (This makes me a LOT of fun to be around, lol.) I try to be good about keeping my…[Read more]
