Not sure if anyone will still see this thread, but I thought I’d pick it up again. Realized that I never replied to Ellen’s great post, which I had meant to, and also I was hoping we could get some more positive coping methods rolling as this past month had been a slow and steady slide into a sh*tshow of sadness, despair, sloth, and general…[Read more]

Thanks, Michael – I’ll try it!

It makes sense, in the sense that that is the common answer. I want to stress that it is also the slower path: short work is where you learn your skills. Long work is where you get your paycheck. Until you are published multiple times, I strongly suggest that you keep the work short, as a short story contains all the skills and qualities you…[Read more]

I’ve been doing about a story a month, Steve. I did manage to get about 58,000 words worth of short stories during National Novel Writing Month. That came to 8 stories as a few of them ran long and they all need a good second draft, but I think they all have a lot of promise.

It really feels like the NaNo experience gave my writing a much…[Read more]

    This worked for me…

Click your username in the upper-right corner of the page.
Select the “Change Profile Photo” tab.
    Upload your image.
(on Microsoft Edge, the “browse” button doesn’t work, but I can drag-and-drop an image)
    Adjust the selection.
    Click “Crop image”.

  • Hello Michael,

I have an Avatar, yet although I have tried to follow instructions to get it to show, it doesn’t show up.

Any tips for what I might need to do?

Thank you in advance for your help.

The main reason I don’t think I could do a whole story a month is that I prefer long form. So I hope to do as much output but just in bigger projects if that makes sense.

Tom, you are rockin’ these submissions! Right after we do the show Saturday, you need to offer to exchange critiques with other members. This will be the beginning of the next level of this site–you guys helping each other. I then coach you on how to coach each other…and we’re cooking with gas.

What is your writing output these days, Scott? I’d like to encourage you to write at least a story a month. Make it very short if need be, but that minimum is highly recommended.

  • Steven Barnes replied to the topic in the forum Site-Wide Activity 9 years, 4 months ago

Is there a reason you cannot write a story a month? Even a very short one? If there is, fine and we will support you! But I want to encourage you to look at that output and see if you aren’t underestimating your capacity.

And that’s all wonderful! now: CHANT those gratitudes while walking or moving dynamically, as well as speaking your goals and what you need to do TODAY to make them happen…and you are motoring!

It would not be marketable as general fiction. On a specifically liberal-slanted political site, possibly.

  • Steven Barnes replied to the topic in the forum Site-Wide Activity 9 years, 4 months ago

that sounds great. Our suggestion is “short stories” so the ideal thing is to keep it under 5k. Makes it more focused, and allows readers to contribute to you without a large time investment.

Look, you have different issues here. The first is that you are insecure. The second is that you are deriving your self-image from others, and the third is that you are very judgemental.

Your key to all of this is self-love. Do you use the Ancient Child meditation?

    Hi!
Writers of the Future is a fantastic writing contest, and I’d like to encourage you all to make them one of your regular story markets. I’m definitely in for the challenge.

There is usually a WOTF panel at LOSCON that I’ve attended for the past two years. One tip that I’ve gotten is that if you get an honorable mention, or you just really…[Read more]

  • Some of our discussions are getting long. I’d rather allow each of you to control the sort order; however, the only plugin that I’ve found only lets me set the sort order for everyone.

So, we’re going to give it a try with the most recent replies first. Issues can be discussed here.

As said before: I want to be honest with myself… Men tell me: Be strong/more alpha etc. and yes of course I want to authentically LOVE my woman being such a porn-star. But it bothers me – and I dont like being weak of course – but I suffer from it – and the last I want is being judged for that “wound” – it SUCKS.

But it bothers me and I dont…[Read more]
