On it! I’ll have my first short story this week and then on to the next lesson!
Thank you all for the support. It makes all the difference.

Thanks, Steven. That does make it manageable. Reminds me of the old saying, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time”.

I’ll focus on 3 three things as I finish my week one homework to write a story about someone who is incarcerated, has been effected in some way by incarceration or who works in the prision industry.
    I have a good idea of…[Read more]

I’m a published and produced Poet, but don’t really write poetry much anymore and your post makes me think I could jot down some poems in a notebook as a way of journaling.
Little snippets of poems to document, deconstruct and “chew on” the experiences of my daily life.

I’ll share one on this thread when I finish if you all are interested…

That is a good question, LaVeda.

My strength is my resilience/resourcefulness. I owe everything to my ability to face, and overcome challenges, struggle, and heartbreak. Since Growth is a painful (or at least uncomfortable) process, it’s helped me immensely to be able to endure the pain and cross over to the other side, where Growth awaits.…[Read more]

Hi Tananarive and Congrats on your award! I just wateched the Week One Introduction video where you mention your award-winning Short Story Collection and the parts you talked about were so intriguing it makes me want to crack open your collection!

That’s amazing. Have you completed a story? If so, are you planning on sumbitting it to a publication?

This is an enlightening conversation. Describing characters is one of the easier skilss for me, as is dialogue. What tends to allude me is structure.

I like the 5 steps to becoming a Social Justice Warrior. That struck me on the Introduction (week 1) video too. It didn’t occur to me that self-image could impact my writing, but after reflection, I…[Read more]

I’ll start with one then. I’ll let the group in on my progress. I’m excited and full of dread at the same time. See ya, Comfort Zone! I’ve got moves to make…

Ok…here goes! 4 overwhelms me and 1 feels like I’m not committed. I’ll start with 2. *biting nails
Do you suggest I work on one than the other or is it fine to work on 2 simultaneously?

    • You can only work on one at a time. But you can alternate which one you’re working on, yes. Alternate days, alternate weeks, even morning/evening. My suggestion however, is one until you finish it, THEN switch. If you alternate, that’s o.k. as long as you stay on target: 2 finished and marketed stories per month.

Think and Grow Rich, as well as Napoleon Hill’s controverisal and less well known follow up to his first book, Outwitting the Devil, continue to have a direct impact on my life because they opened my perspective to principles that can be applied to avoid the pitfulls that often hold us back from being a co-creator of our reality and give a clear,…[Read more]

    • So the thing to do is get to work! Commit to a particular output, and then let us support you. We recommend 2-4 pieces a month, but 1 per month is o.k. by Tananarive. The important thing is that you actually get it done…or notice what stops you and begin to dig into that “stuff.” One way or another, the things that stop us as individuals also…[Read more]
