Not read the original story yet. The basic idea: “Mankind will only pull together if aliens arrive” has been expressed many many times, and I think “Arrival” and “ID4” (while a cartoon) are the only ones who have gotten it right.

I suspect that a liberal mindset is a bit more likely to result from/go through the processes that lead to that mindset, but not by much. Actually, that doubt never fully leaves. It cycles around over and over, but we gain greater awareness that it is just part of the process.

I know a man named Tim Piering who exemplified as close to “every” principle in that book as I can think off the top of my head. Very successful, healthy, accomplished man on every level. I honestly don’t know ANYONE who is successful who didn’t exemplify about 1/3 of the principles at the least.
